Q: How can I apply to enter an NSAL Arizona competition?
A: The Greater Arizona Chapter conducts or participates in various competitions each year, August through March. For details, rules and application information please click here.
Q: How much does it cost to enter an NSAL Arizona competition?
A: Depending on the particular competition, entrance fees range from zero to $25. However, there can be other expenses such as the cost of preparing a CD or DVD as part of the application process, such as for the Winston Scholarship Competition in Voice.
Q: What competitions are coming up that I might enter?
A: There are competitions every year in Voice, Visual Art, Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre. Every four years the National Career Awards competitions are held in Dance, Musical Theatre, Drama and Musical Instruments on a rotating basis. There is also a biennial international piano competition in Phoenix. Please click here for more information.
Q: What are the age limits for competitors?
A: Each competition has its own age limit rules, but overall the youngest is 14 and the upper limit is generally 25. The age range differs according to the particular discipline. Please click here for more information.
Q: How much money is awarded to a winner of an NSAL competition?
A: Monetary awards for winners differ depending on the particular competition and the placement in adjudication. Also, awards may change from year to year. The range of monetary awards has in recent years been between $100 and $10,000, considering both purely Arizona competitions and competitions where Arizona winners ultimately compete against other chapter winners at the NSAL National level. Q: How do I apply to become a member of NSAL Arizona?
A: You only need to fill out the application form which is found here. Either join online or send the form along with the required membership fee.
Q: What is the annual cost of membership in NSAL Arizona?
A: Annual dues are $120 (including a one-time initiation fee of $35) for a new member and $85 for renewals. See the Application form for further details.
Q: What are some examples of activities of the NSAL Arizona chapter?
A: The chapter presents numerous opportunities for members to participate in social and young artist competitive events which align with the particular interest of the member in our various artistic disciplines: music, dance, visual art, drama, musical theater, or literature. Members are encouraged to attend competitions as observers, which is an excellent way to meet our young artists and feel first-hand the excitement of a competition. The chapter hosts three major social events during the year where members and guests are welcome and at which prior winners of our competitions typically perform. Q: What kinds of opportunities exist for underwriting NSAL Arizona competitions or events?
A: The chapter provides many different ways for a member or friend to further the mission of NSAL in a particular creative discipline of choice. Examples are: special award monies to competition winners in honor of a loved one, creation of a particular competition new to our chapter for a special age group or artistic discipline, underwriting of one of our social events, gifts to our endowment matched by a corporate contributor.
